A LIVING BRIDGES WORKSHOP
A five week embodied exploration of human attachment through the lens of mindfulness, developmental theory and contact improvisation. This series is for people wanting to deepen their connection with themselves and their bodies and become more skillful in their relations with self, others and groups.
dates: 9/11 – 9/18 – 9/25 – 10/2 – 10/9
Each class in the series will focus on a different developmental stage and need from early life.
- CONNECTION – being in touch with self and other
- ATTUNEMENT – recognizing feelings and needs
- TRUST – exploring healthy interdependence
- AUTONOMY – how limits can lead to expansion
- SENSUALITY- understanding our sensual nature as animals
Connections are intrinsic to life. The quality of those connections affects the quality of our life. We all are looking to engage deeply with our environment in ways that draw us forward.
The quality of our connections in this moment are strongly influenced by our earliest experiences of contact and connection with our parents or caregivers. Very early in life, in the womb and through the first few years, assumptions form about ourselves and the world based on the presence or absence of consistent nourishing connection and the amount and quality of the touch we received.
These embodied dispositions towards intimacy are known as our attachment “style”. Our “style” of attachment affects many aspects of our life, particularly in the realm of intimate one-on-one and group connections. On the dance floor and in life, it determines how we enter and exit intimacy, how long we linger and how deep we allow ourselves to go.
Contact Improvisation is an effective lens to explore our attachment styles, gain insight into the organizing beliefs behind them, and begin to provide the missing experiences that those styles need to become more secure.
During this Living Bridges workshop we will;
- build a container of safety, trust, and self-study
- establish clear boundaries
- explore barriers to nourishment
- develop our own foundation and connection with earth
- expand out capacity to give and receive support
NO DANCE EXPERIENCE REQUIRED.
This class series is perfect for beginning and more advanced contact dancers who want to go deeper into this material. We will be focusing on creating a group healing field so that each person can have time receiving from the support of the whole when they need.
