What is a Birthshop:

Birth Trauma

Our experiences in the womb, during birth, and in the first few years, set the template for how we will experience the rest of our life. Unfortunately, today's modern industrial birthing practices are often invasive and traumatic with reports of 30-50% being severly traumatic and 50% being moderately traumatic.

The repercussions of this trauma manifest powerfully in how we relate to ourselves and others, and negatively influence the ways we interact with our bodies, our families. and our societies.

Birthshops are designed to clear the traumatic residue of these early experiences from our nervous systems, set a new baseline of wellness and belonging, and to give you the important missing experience of being deeply welcomed to your life in safety and love.

"We come into this world wide-open to receive love. When we receive it as our first primal experience, our nervous system is "limbically imprinted", programmed with the undeniable rightness of being. But if our first impressions of being in our body are anything less than loving, then that "anything" imprints in our system as a valid experience of love! It is immediately coded into our nervous system as a "comfort zone," acting as a surrogate for true love and nurturing, regardless how painful it actually was. As adults, we unconsciously re-create these conditions that were imprinted at birth." - Elena Tonetti-Vladimirova

Birthshops

It is never too late to have a healthy birth.

unnamedNo matter what your birth was like, the birthshop experience can help to create a new and more nourishing Limbic Imprint. Instead of trying to fix the old "programming" (by re-living the initial shock of being born), it's most effective to just acquire a whole new vivid, rich, wonderful and sweet birth experience!

Matthew is certified in the Birth Into Being Method created by Elena Tonetti-Vladimirova. This method helps individuals have the felt experience of being conceived, gestated, and born in love and natural ecstasy. The Birthshop combines seminar/guided mediation/movement/breathing exercise/role-playing... and it's fun!

Who Are Birthshops for? You!

We encourage anyone who had a less than ideal birth experience to attend a Birthshop because we can all benefit from experiencing more love, clarity, purpose, and energy in our lives and in our relationships.

Some of the people who benefit the most from doing this work are:

  • Expectant parents, especially Mothers and Fathers who want to give their babies a headstart in life by not passing on their own traumas to their children.
  • Artists and other change makers who are looking to access and unleash even more of their creative power in the world.
  • People in the helping professions such as therapists, counselors, bodyworkers, coaches, etc. who want more insight into themselves and their clients and who want to learn new tools to support them even more effectively.
  • Parents of children who may have had difficult or traumatic births. By clearing their own experiences of their births and their children's births, parents are able to support their children in their natural healing by providing a more neutral and supportive nervous system for their children to access.
  • Anyone who wants more love, connection, and purpose in life and who feels that there is something holding them back.

Birthshop Format

Healing must occur at the level at which the wounding happened which is why we start at the beginning. Through meditation and visualization we will access the cellular memory of our infant selves, bringing the subconscious into consciousness. We will engage with the implicit traumas in our bodies and lean into the support of the group to consciously discharge the bound feelings, help meet the unmet needs, and develop greater strength and resiliency.

We facilitate a mixture of lecture, activities, movement, and somatic meditations within the Birthshop.

What Participants are Saying:

"I am 61 year old male with children in their mid 20's. Attending a birthshop would seem a little late. I found it to be a very effective and powerful method. Matthew creates a safe place for connecting with my feelings and is a wonderful guide in this process. I would recommend this work to anybody and especially young couples. " -Rhoads

"A Birthshop is a rare and excellent opportunity to look into your birth and receive healing around it. The healing can be all-encompassing to include your ancestry, your whole family system, life circumstances at the time of conception, gestation, birth and early years of development. Matthew is very skilled in holding space and guiding the process for the group and each individual. His listening and vision is deep, his language is clear and useful, and his heart wisdom is full of compassion and knowing. He also uses touch very effectively to help the nervous system integrate the experience. I highly recommend Birthshop if you're at all called to the work. As a healer and doula, I see it as a very special way to bring more health, consciousness and kindness to yourself and all your relations, and therefore to our planet." -Jen

"It was challenging. But I was deeply touched by how Matthew held space with me. I don't feel like anyone else has ever been there with me and for most of my life it has been a sad, isolating and even terrifying space. It is amazing work, so important and it touched me deeply. I am grateful." -Amy

"This workshop was very profound for me in two different ways: one as a preparation for our baby's birth and the other as a woman in the world. I experienced the way i would like my baby and all babies to feel when they come to this life. I also discovered a lot a bout my self I had not known. I learned from Matthew as a facilitator but I also learned about him as a real person, as a husband, father and individual being." -Paulina

“Matthew is an outstanding BIB facilitator adept in the nuances of Elena's Method as well as having an amazing array of complementary modalities that augment, support and nurture the participants of his workshops. He has my highest recommendation.” – David Lefler
